Prolonged Study Leave Guidance

Prolonged Study Leave (PSL) can be taken to carry out a study which enhances the NHS Plan objectives, ideally to develop the individual and benefit primary care in the NHS in the form of undertaking a course, study or research on a part-time or full-time basis.

Read carefully the sections in the new regulations that relate to PSL (Statement of Financial Entitlement, paragraphs 15.1 to 15.11). Contact your Area team to calculate exactly how much money you would be allowed for the purposes of employing a locum and how much you might receive in educational allowances.
